Amintas Rock Tombs - Mugla

Amintas Rock Tombs - Mugla

The rock-cut tombs constitute the oldest group of ruins from the ancient city. The most important of these is the rock tomb named as amintas tomb due to the “Amintas son of Hermapios” in the middle part of the east ante wall. The facade of the grave completely reminds of the ion temple facade. On the eastern slope of this tomb, a group of rock tombs attract more attention. Two of them have a temple facade. One has been left unfinished. The modern city has a large castle ruin built in the middle ages using spolia. There are not many traces of settlement in the castle, a large part of which is built on the bedrock. It was mostly built and used for defense purposes.
